Tata institute of social sciences: The Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS)

The Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) was established in 1936 as the Sir Dorabji Tata Graduate School of Social Work. In 1944, it was renamed as the Tata Institute of Social Sciences . The year 1964 was an important landmark in the history of the Institute , when it was declared Deemed to be a University under Section 3 of the University Grants Commission Act (UGC), 1956. The Tata Institute of Social Sciences , a multi campus institution, deemed to be University under Section 3 of the UGC Act 1956, and a grant-in-aid Institute under Ministry of Education, Government of India, was established in the year 1936. Tata Group has also established premier institutions such as the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), the Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), and Tata Memorial Hospital, a cancer care center. TISS is a unique institution that brings together high quality scholars and practitioners from Social , Economic, Political, Physical, Habitat, Engineering, Health, and Environmental Sciences to create interdisciplinary teaching and research programmes combined with field action to address the most critical current and emerging issues of the nation.
