Who is Sri Ramanuja ? Sri Ramanuja (1017–1137 CE) was a great philosopher, spiritual teacher, and social reformer of India. He became one of the most important acharyas (spiritual masters) in the history of Sanatana Dharma (Hinduism). His teachings continue to guide millions of people even today. Ramanuja (born c. 1017, Shriperumbudur, India—died 1137, Shrirangam) was a South Indian Brahman theologian and philosopher, the single most influential thinker of devotional Hinduism. Ramanuja , drawing from the Bhagavad Gita and ancient Vedic wisdom, emphasizes a practical path of spiritual practice designed to facilitate the realization of Brahman and the true nature of the self. This path is a harmonious blend of action, knowledge, devotion, and self-surrender. Born in 1017 in Sriperumbudur in Tamil Nadu, Ramanujacharya is revered as a Vedic philosopher and social reformer. He was named Lakshmana at the time of his birth. He was also referred to as Ilaya Perumal which means the radiant one. He traveled across India, advocating equality and social justice.
