Poonch is a town in western Jammu and Kashmir union territory, northern India. It lies at the confluence of the Belar and Poonch rivers, at the southern foot of the western Pir Panjal Range, and is situated near the line of control between the Indian- and Pakistani-administered portions of Kashmir. In the 6th Century A.D. Chinese traveller Huien Tsang passed through Poonch . He wrote that Poonch was famous for graphics, fine tea (Musloom) and good horses.
