Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Gramin (PMAY-G) is a major rural housing scheme launched by the Government of India with the goal of providing “Housing for All” in rural areas. The scheme was approved by the Union Cabinet on 23 March 2015 and implemented from 1 April 2016 as a restructured version of the Indira Awaas Yojana (IAY). To fill the gaps in previous rural housing plans and to fulfil the government’s promise of “Housing for All” by 2022, the Indira Awaas Yojana was revamped into Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana – Gramin (PMAY-G). The Prime Minister launched this on November 20, 2016, with a goal to build 2.95 Crore houses by 2022.
