She is the daughter of painter Jatin Das and writer Varsha Das, and has won several awards for her films such as Earth and Firaaq. Nandita Das is a versatile and acclaimed performer in parallel and mainstream cinema, known for her roles in Fire, Firaaq, and Manto. She is also a filmmaker and a social activist, who has won several awards and worked with Mira Nair and Deepa Mehta. Nandita Das made her Bollywood debut with the film Parinati, but it was her powerful performance in the 1996 movie Fire that brought her fame.
