Chandrayaan-1, India's first mission to Moon , was launched successfully on October 22, 2008 from SDSC SHAR, Sriharikota. The spacecraft was orbiting around the Moon at a height of 100 km from the lunar surface for chemical, mineralogical and photo-geologic mapping of the Moon. Chandrayaan - 1 was launched by ISRO in 2008 and operated until 2009. It consisted of an orbiter and an impactor, and discovered water molecules in lunar soil and mapped the Moon's surface and composition. Chandrayaan - 1 was launched in 2008 and orbited the Moon for over a year, mapping its surface and detecting water and hydroxyl. The mission also studied the lunar environment, the solar wind and the lunar craters with various scientific payloads.
