Chamundeshwari: Anajaneya and Sri Chamundeshwari

Anajaneya and Sri Chamundeshwari Development Authority Previously the above two temples were in the Poorniah Choultry. The choultry was demolished to enable the construction of M.G.Road. The two temples are retained in the midst of M.G.Road. It is learnt that the above two temples were built during the period of Dewan Poorniah. Sri Chamundeshwari Temple History The Sri Chamundeshwari Temple occupies an eminent position in the history of Karnataka and Hindu religion with great antiquity and a history of over 1000 years. A fierce form of ‘Shakti’, the temple is built for the goddess ‘Chamundi’, one of the avatars of Durga or Parvati. Chamundeshwari Temple is a Hindu temple dedicated to the fierce form of Shakti on Chamundi Hills near Mysuru, Karnataka. It is one of the 18 Shakta pithas and a popular pilgrimage site for Navaratri and other festivals.
