Wani ’ s death has generated unprecedented public hysteria, in keeping with his image as a glamourous, tech savvy, insurgent. The lessons to be drawn from this event go beyond the conventional understanding of violence in Kashmir. Burhan Wani was an Indian militant. He was the commander of the Kashmiri militant group Hizb-ul-Mujahideen and was encountered by the Indian security forces Burhan Wani was an Indian militant and the commander of the Kashmiri militant group- Hizb-ul-Mujahideen. He was killed in an encounter by the security forces. His father, Muzaffar Ahmad Wani, is a maths teacher and the principal of a higher secondary school in Jammu & Kashmir. Burhan Wani was killed in an anti insurgency operation on 8 July 2016 along with two other militants, later identified as Sartaj Ahmad Sheikh and Pervaiz Ahmad Lashkari.
