Bekal – Bekal Fort , is the largest fort in Kerala, situated at Bekal , Pallikera village in Hosdurg Taluk in Kasaragod district, Kerala and it is 65 km from Mangalore city spreading over 40 acres. Bekal Fort is a medieval fort built by Shivappa Nayaka of Keladi in 1650 AD, at Bekal , Kerala. It is the largest fort in Kerala, spreading over 40 acres, and has a history of being a naval base for Mysore Sultans and a tourist attraction. Bekal served as an important military station of Tipu Sultan when he led the great military expedition to capture Malabar. The coins and other artifacts unearthed by the archaeological excavation conducted recently at Bekal fort is a manifestation of the strong presence of the Mysore Sultans. Bekal Fort offers a straightforward yet enlightening experience that beautifully combines history and natural beauty. The fort is open from 8 am to 6 pm every day, with tickets priced at ₹25 for adults and free entry for children below 15.
