VJ ( I will henceforth Vani Jayaram as VJ for brevity) , entered the Tamil film with her first song for a Tamil film “ Thayum Seyum” for which music was composed by the veteran S M Subbiah Naidu but unfortunately the film and the song remained unreleased. Vani Jairam (1945-2023) was an Indian playback singer in Indian cinema, known for her versatility and range. She sang in several languages and won many awards, including the Padma Bhushan and the Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award. Tamil film personalities including actors, singers and musicians expressed shock over the demise of legendary singer Vani Jayaram on Saturday. Veteran playback singer Vani Jairam who sang over 10,000 songs in several languages including Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Bhojpuri, and Marathi, passed away today at her apartment in Chennai.
