The Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education (RTE) Act, 2009, which represents the consequential legislation envisaged under Article 21-A, means that every child has a right to full time elementary education of satisfactory and equitable quality in a formal school which satisfies certain essential norms and standards. School Education Shagun is an over reaching initiative to improve the school education system. The initiative involves creating a junction in the form of a platform for all portals and websites of the Department of School Education in the Government of India and all States and Union Territories (UTs).
The word 'Shagun' is coined from two different words 'Shala', meaning Schools and 'Gunvatta' meaning Quality.
