Mankedia, one of the Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups ( PVTG ) in Odisha, were denied habitat rights in the Similipal Tiger Reserve under the Scheduled Tribes and Other Traditional Forest Dwellers (Recognition of Forest Rights) Act, 2006. The PVTG full form refers to Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups, a designation that is crucial for comprehending the rich social and cultural diversity of India. These groups represent some of the most disadvantaged communities, possessing distinct traditions, languages, and ways of life that require focused attention and safeguarding. 1.1 The admissibility / share of funds in respect of each of the PVTG States / UT, out of total fund allocation for the financial year under the Scheme of 'Development of PVTGs', shall be in proportion to PVTG population in the State, as compared to (out of) total PVTG population in the country. Population figures of last census or Baseline population survey conducted by State Governments (whichever figure is later) will be the basis for calculation of share of funds of PVTG States. What is a Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Group ( PVTG )? PVTGs are more vulnerable among the tribal groups. Due to this factor, more developed and assertive tribal groups take a major chunk of the tribal development funds, because of which PVTGs need more funds directed for their development.
