Chandigarh, a union territory of India, is the capital of two states, Haryana and Punjab. Chandigarh means - The Fort of Chandi. The name was orignated from an ancient temple called Chandi Mandir, dedicated to the Goddess Chandi. Chanadigarh is occasionally referred to as The City Beautiful. Chandigarh is the capital city of Haryana which it shares with Punjab. The present day Haryana is a fast developing state and has been a major contributor to the green revolution in India. Haryana has also produced many athletes who have won laurels for India in various games including Asian games, Commonwealth games and the Olympics. In summary, the capital of Haryana is Chandigarh , a union territory uniquely serving two states. Infact, the Centre had offered a Rs 20 crore in grant and loan to Haryana for setting up the new capital , according to the government release. Later in 2018, Haryana CM Manohar Lal Khattar asked to create a special body for the development of Chandigarh, but the Punjab CM rejected it, saying the city “indisputably belonged to Punjab”.
